White spirit

White spirit or mineral spirits, also known as mineral turpentine, turpentine substitute, and petroleum spirits, is a petroleum-derived clear liquid used as a common organic solvent in painting. There are also terms for specific kinds of mineral spirits, including Stoddard solvent and solvent naphtha

White Spirit is a petroleum distillate used as a paint thinner and mild solvent. In industry, mineral spirits are used for cleaning and degreasing machine tools and parts, and in conjunction with cutting oil as a thread cutting and reaming lubricant. Mineral spirits are an inexpensive petroleum-based replacement for the vegetable-based turpentine. It is commonly used as a paint thinner for oil-based paint and cleaning brushes, and as an organic solvent in other applications.

Mineral turpentine is chemically very different from turpentine, which mainly consists of pinene, and it has inferior solvent properties. Artists use mineral spirits as an alternative to turpentine since it is less flammable and less toxic. Because of interactions with pigments in oil paints, artists require a higher grade of mineral spirits than many industrial users, including the complete absence of residual sulfur. Mineral spirits were formerly an active ingredient in the laundry soap Fels Naptha, used to dissolve oils and grease in laundry stains, and as a popular remedy for eliminating the contagious oil urushiol in poison ivy. It was removed as a potential health risk.

White Spirit is a petroleum extract and it is considered a mild Solvent. It is known as mineral turpentine, turpentine substitute, petroleum spirits, solvent naphtha (petroleum), Varsol & Solvent 402. White spirit is mixture of paraffin and aromatic hydrocarbons with a distillation range of 200-142 °C. These types of Solvents are liquid, transparent, colored water and a mild odor, chemically stable and they do not cause corrosion.

White spirit has 3 different types and grades. These grades are determined by the crude oil used as the starting material and the conditions of distillation.

Hydrodesulphurized heavy naphtha which contains 25% aromatics and is called white spirit type 0.
Solvent-refined heavy naphtha that contains13 to 17% aromatics and is known as low aromatic white spirit.
Hydrotreated heavy naphtha in which aromatics has changed to saturated alicyclic hydrocarbons.
Note that the higher aromatic composition of the white spirit, the greater their solvent strength and smell.

Advantages of Low Aromatic White Spirit
Low aromatic white spirit (LAWS) is a refined type of white spirit that contains less sulfur. That’s why the majority of industries prefer LAWS to other types.

This type of white spirit is less toxic than high aromatic white spirit. Applying LAWS as paint thinner, reduces the unpleasant smell of the paint and protects you from dizziness or nausea.

White Spirit Application :

White Spirit is used as a paint thinner. In industry, mineral spirits are used for cleaning and degreasing machine tools and parts, and in conjunction with cutting oil as a thread cutting and reaming lubricant. Mineral spirits are often used to clean and unclog screens after printing with oil-based textile and plastisol inks. They are also used to thin inks used in making mono-prints.

Packing:

Also White Spirit is packed in bulk, drum normally (170 Kg & 200 Kg drum each) and small flexi Tanks (With maximum 15 tons capacity) too.
